Tai Chi class at our school in Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY
Our Tai Chi class provides a thorough, low-impact workout for the entire body and is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels, from young athletes to older adults to people with chronic illness or disability.
Form: Beginning students start with the Yang Style 24 Tai Chi Chuan Form. This is a standardized short form developed in China. It contains less repetition than traditional long forms, making it easier to learn and remember, while still offering a complete Tai Chi workout. Intermediate and advanced students have the opportunity to learn more advanced hand forms and weapons forms, including sword (jian), saber (dao) and pole.
Qigong: Students also learn Qigong exercises, which rejuvenate the body by clearing out blockages in the body's energy channels (meridians). Once these blockages are clear, Qi (life energy) flows more freely, promoting healthy circulation and bringing warmth to your organs, muscles, joints and bones. With regular practice, Qigong exercises result in a more youthful body and improve your overall health.
Tai Chi class meets twice a week (except on school holidays). The schedule for new students is:
| Tai Chi Lesson | Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. |
| Qigong & Open Practice | Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. |
Prospective students are welcome to take a trial class for $25 or observe a class free of charge. For more information about tuition and fees, contact us!
As of October 29, 2011, Saturday practice is back inside the school. But we'll head out to Prospect Park again when the weather warms up in the spring.
